There are still quite a few rare comic books on the market that anyone, with enough money can own. Most that are under $50 are from the 1960's and 1970's era.

A good example is the ‘World's Finest" #185 featuring the Galactic Gamblers, along with Superman and Batman. This is a DC comic printed in 1969 and can be purchased for $30. Or the "Adventure Comics Presents "The New Supergirl" from DC comics printed in 1970 with a price tag of $18.

EBay is also involved in selling old and rare comic books. The bidding is fierce for some and none existent for others. The quality of the comic book is hit or miss, so buyer be wary.

The best site I found if you are really looking for a rare comic book is www.jamespayettecomics.com. This site has a wide selection, and not only is they listed in alphabetical order but each comic book is graded for condition. There is a Superman #4 in fair condition for only $495. Most of the comic books are under $50. The most expensive Superman comic book is the #7 rated very good and is selling for $795. The other end of the price spectrum is also there. Superman #291 that is in poor condition and a Mexican copy is going for $2.

There were a lot of celebrities that were made into comic book heroes like Babe Ruth. There were only 11 issues printed, but there is still a good supply since multiple copies of each are still available to be sold from $325 for a perfect #4 to as low as $20 for a fair #5.

The value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it. For rare comic books, there is still a good demand so the prices will continue to rise as time moves on.
